PHONOLOGY

 What is phonology?

Is the study of the sound system of the language

  What is Phonetic?

The science of speech sound especially of their  production .transmission and reception (a coustic /articulatory and auditory phonetics)

In all language we speak with air that we breath. We take it in our lungs quickly and we rrleased it slowly  and then interfere it passage in various place to produce sound

A sound is made by difinite movement of the speech organs and if these movements are exactly repeated the result will be the same sound. All language have the sound through the sound may differ .in other words each language has its own language system

THE ORGANS OF SPEECH (vocal organ)

SPEECH PRODUCTION
An articulatory phonetics cleals with the way in which speech are produced
Sounds are usually classified according to position of lips and the toungue how far open the mouth is whether or not the vocal cords are vibrating  etc

 AIR STEAM

The air revealed by the lung comes up through the wind pipe and arise first at larynx .The source and direction og air flow identifies the basi class of sound

VOCAL FOLDS

The fold of tough , flexible tissue in the larynx extending from back to front

Example

SOFT PALATE

This is a broad band of muscular tissue the rear upper region of the mouth . In normal breating the soft palate is lowered to permit air to pass easily through the nose , when it is lowered air passes through the nose , and the sound is described as nasal or nasalied , when it is raised air passes through the mouth and the sound is oral Example

PLACE OF ARTICULATION

There are many part the mouth and troat (cavity oral ) thet are ised in the  production of speech sound .

The main these are articulation of English Consonats

  • Bilabial eg /p/
  • Labiodental eg /f/
  • Soft palate velum eg/k/
MANNER OF ARTICULATION

The way in which a speech sound is product by organs . There are different ways of producing as speech sound. With consonants the air steam may be

  • A stop
  • Fricative
